HOW TO STAY SAFE IN DUBAI

Updated: Jul 16, 2022

Dubai is a safe city. Violent crime is quite uncommon. Petty theft and pick-pocketing are possible, although they are extremely infrequent. You are ok as long as you keep your valuables protected.

Several behaviors that are permitted in other countries are not lawful in Dubai, including public displays of love between unmarried or LGBTQ partners, inebriated conduct, immodest clothing, cursing, photographing individuals without their permission, and criticizing the UAE's leadership, among others.

In summary, you must dress and behave modestly here. Everything insane in the city happens behind closed doors. It's a "see no evil" thing. Don't test the limits in public or you'll get in trouble.

If you have an emergency, phone 999 for the police, 998 for an ambulance, and 997 for the fire department.

The most important advice I can provide is to have adequate travel insurance. Travel insurance covers you in the event of illness, accident, theft, or cancellation. It provides extensive coverage if something goes wrong.
